Here are the highlights from the interview of Minister Avcı:

Approximately 30 thousand teachers will be appointed in February

“His excellency the Prime Minister has said that 30 thousand teachers will be appointed in February. This figure might change but I believe that we will be able to make the appointments of 30 thousand new teachers in February.

Newly appointed teachers will start their duties on March 1 and start getting their salaries according to this date. But they will have to receive on job training and an orientation program before they start teaching at the classroom.

The program will include appointing advisor teachers who have at least 10 years of experience in coaching the new teachers. The newly appointed teachers will attend the senior teachers’ classes to observe how they teach at the classroom. New teachers will also have the opportunity to see regional directorates of national education on duty.”

“Teachers learn from teachers”

“In the past, there were education institutes. Teachers learn from teachers. New teachers will learn from senior teachers in the classroom. In addition to this, newly appointed teachers will participate in an on job training program during the summer. Teachers who will go to Eastern and Southeastern regions will receive a brief training about the local languages so that they will have the opportunity to communicate with students and teachers of the region. They will also learn about their cultures and traditions.

Cooperation with YÖK about formation program

“We are cooperating with the Council of Higher Education. The teacher formation program is an earned right. After graduating from universities, those who are willing to become teachers attend formation programs and enter Public Personnel Selection Examination. This is how people are becoming eligible for teacher appointments.”

“25 thousand 960 teachers are on duty”

“70 percent of recent 37 thousand appointments were made to Eastern and Southeastern Regions. There were claims that these teachers would not go to these cities. Only 40 of them asked to be excused and 25 thousand and 960 teachers who were appointed to these regions are on duty.”

EIN is the biggest education portal of the World

“Education Information Network or publicly known as EIN is the most important component of the FATİH Project. It is believed that FATİH is a software project but it is a project that does not only distribute tablets and computers, it is also about content.

EIN is a giant platform including more than 150 thousand supplementary educational materials and sample tests and homework. It is developed by the experts and teachers of the Ministry of National Education.  Students and teachers have their own password and they can enter the portal via their own computers or tablets that we had distributed.

Number of EIN users exceeds 8 million

“EIN was initiated in 2012 by Mr. Ömer Dinçer who at the time was the Minister of National Education. I want to thank him for initiating such a useful project. Number of EIN users have exceeded 8 million since then and this figure is still rising. We have founded 13 studios in 12 cities in order to videotape classes and lectures.  “

“I had the opportunity to visit the school I graduated 45 years ago”

“I visited the school I graduated 45 years ago and sat on my desk. I remember all my classmates and their school numbers. It shows that things we have learned when we were young are not easy to forget. “

“Teachers are unforgettable”

“I want to mention again that teachers are unforgettable. I did not remember who the Minister of National Education was when I started school but I did not forget any of my teachers. So, appreciate your teachers and classmates.”

“Students should learn at the classroom”

“We believe that students should learn at the classroom and at their own schools. In the past, schools were neglected due to preparatory schools. It was a serious illusion and deception. Parents and teachers were unhappy with this situation. After the transformation of preparatory courses, some of the courses have turned into schools. We allowed them to complete this transformation within the next four years.

The Constitutional Court ruled that the Ministry of National Education should not limit children’s right to receive education from institutions other than schools. There was a legal gap as the Turkish Parliament cancelled preparatory courses. It is not a part of Constitutional Court’s authority to allow students to attend education institutions which was cancelled by the Parliament.”

Free supplementary and refresher courses

“We have opened free supplementary and refresher courses at schools. Pursuant to the ruling of the Constitutional Court, we have provided opportunities for students who want to have additional training from a course other than in the school.”

“EIN includes a module entitled e-course. Students who want to have supplementary course can easily enter this application and enroll in these courses. This year, 237 thousand of our teachers have volunteered to give courses at the weekends. Last year, this figure was 112 thousand. This is a sacrifice by our teachers who are willing to provide for the sake of their students. Number of students who attended these courses has already exceeded 4 million.”

Pen is the symbol of teachers

“Young people might have not known this but our teachers and principals were carrying tow pens, one red and one blue- in their pockets when we were students. We never want to see red pen markings on our records.

So, pen was the symbol of teachers. It is tradition that should not be neglected. We are now giving pens to our teachers as presents.
